A Stitch In Thyme…

Run out of your preferred anti-dandruff shampoo or don’t have any and wish you did? Never fear, Ms. Necessity is here! Just dash out to your thriving herb garden and pluck a handful of fresh thyme (don’t worry, mine hasn’t quite grown sufficiently for picking either *wink*) or about 4 teaspoons of dried and add to 500 mls of newly boiled water. Stir and let sit to cool. Thyme is a highly effective antiseptic or rather the essential oils it contains are and have been used to great effect throughout the ages. Once the thyme infusion has cooled, strain the thyme and compost or discard. Retain the cool infused water and use it as a final leave-in rinse. Ta da! What dandruff?

Onya, Ms. Necessity!

All Hail The Seasoned Professional!

Exaltations all round for the original and true doyens of beauty: our mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and all other well put together elder stateswomen to have ever graced our presence. Here! Here! While waiting in the doctor’s surgery to have my hand tended to yesterday, I had a wonderful opportunity to take in some of the most delightful, well put together dears, who even in illness and varying degrees of infirmity still made a gracious effort to allow their inner beauty to manifest outwardly, which was unreservedly beautiful not to mention inspiring. These regal beauties, each and every one, were tidy and well groomed. Some ensured they had lipstick on while others both lipstick and blush. I am sure even a bit of foundation could also be accounted for amongst these gorgeous women. I glanced a recently rinsed and set hairdo and even detected a subtle waft of what would have been a favourite fragrance, no doubt. You could tell, these women had done this many times before. I don’t imagine they would even think of heading out without their face on in some degree, a brush or comb of the hair, or an uplifting spritz of perfume, at the very least. It was so wonderful to see, doubly so because even when not their most sprightly, these magnificent women still made an effort, which heralds the mark of a seasoned and true professional beauty. Just splendid.

Silly Me.

Ouchy. I did my left hand, specifically my thumb, a mischief very early this morning and I am off for all the requisite x-rays, pokes, prods, and potential plasters now. So apologies, My Lovelies, but this update will have to suffice for a post for the moment. If only I could type brilliant tomes one handed. If only I could type brilliant tomes for that matter….one day. Never mind. So for now, wish me luck and let’s hope that if I do need a cast, they’ll, at the very least, whip up a gorgeous pink one for me. Do you think it would be a bit much for me to ask for vintage roses on it as well?

Don’t Forget To Comb Your…

Brush. Brush? Yep, your hair brush and do give it a regular wash as well.. If your anything like me, the brush is often the last thing to hit your head in the morning as you dash out the door to start your day and possibly waved around your hair a bit at night before bed…but only maybe. So really, while brushes are an integral part of our day, they are often used and occasionally abused without much thought. With such frequent yet brief encounters with our hair brushes, we must ensure that we comb them free of hair and give them a gentle but thorough shampooing from time to time. A dust, fluff, oil, product, skin cell and hair free brush works far more effectively and is better for our hair and scalp health than one that’s been neglected and is chockers with “stuff”. Luckily, brushes scrub up a treat when a dob of shampoo is massaged through its bristles and rinsed in warm water. After shampooing your brush, leave it to thoroughly dry with the bristled end over hanging the vanity, desk, or bench top, preferably with the overhanging end bristle-side down so any remaining wetness just falls away from the brush and the air can freely circulate around it. If there’s a great deal of product build-up in your brush, you might like to add a drop of ammonia to the warm shampooy water, as this just turbo charges the shampoo’s grime fighting powers. So how about it? Why not show a bit of love to your faithful bristled friend.

It’s A Bit Warpo, Really…

Nail polish, that is. Ever polished your nails in the evening, just before bed, in anticipation for the following days adventures? Filed and shaped your nails like the gorgeous beauty that you are, gone the obligatory base coat, 2 coats of colour, a top coat, assumed the requisite nail drying position and before time fallen asleep! Drats! Me too! Sometimes you can be lucky and zonk out with your nails free from anything that will emboss your polish, other times… not so lucky. You awaken from your much needed beauty sleep only to find your polish has gone warpo and is now not so gorgeously shiny, but kind of matte and unintentionally texturized. Grrrr. Now what? Fingers crossed, you can just barely wet a cotton bud with nail polish remover and quickly and lightly swipe the unflatteringly embossed area in one direction from your nail bed towards your finger tips (the direction in which you applied the polish) to sort it out. This may just smooth the offending area enough that a top coat is all that’s needed to bring back a smooth glistening shine. Alternately, you may have to go with one uber light coat of coloured polish first then follow up with topcoat. Most times, this will get you out of shtook. An additional slick of top coat alone works a treat for restoring matte nails to their intended stellar finish a great majority of the time. If neither of these tips are working, you might just have to take off the polish and start again. Sighs. But do weigh up the time and frustration factor before you head down that road. Are your nails really that jacked up? Can’t you get away with a little tart up and just keep your hands moving so no one can get a clear fix on your random design? Are you positive you can’t just rock your mani like you meant it? After all, apparently the word on the street is that the deconstructed manicure is all the rage in the Paris shows. -And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
