Par Excellence. Bar None.

Oh wait. That really aught to have been Par Ecellente, shouldn’t it? Seeing that this very excellent blow dryer, by Parlux, is indeed, Italian. Oh well, lucky for us though it’s AMAZING in any language! Parlux 3200 Compact Ceramic & Ionic Edition blow dryer is, without a doubt, the most effective dryer I have used in donkey’s. I got a hold of this beauty originally for a bumper hair story I have been putting together for you in Beauty Marked! Online Beauty Magazine, but it is so nice, that I just knew you wouldn’t mind hearing about it twice.

Parlux Compact 3200 Ceramic & Ionic Edition blow dryer is cleverly designed to minimize damage to your hair by drying from the inside out. Although, I haven’t exactly figured out that works, I do know that you do have far less damage that often results from frequent blow drying when using this dryer. Fewer split ends has got to be a great thing. Hair dried with this par ecellente blow dryer is left soft, silky, and mega healthy looking.

Parlux 3200 Compact Ceramic & Ionic Edition dryer is reasonably lightweight and gracefully pumps out 1900 watts of power. It has an internal ionic generator, 4 temperature settings, 2 speeds, and a nifty Cold Shot button for setting. Now on to the bad news. This ultra fab dryer had to go and come in no less than 7 colours now didn’t? How is one meant to honestly choose? Plus each colour and finish is just as fab as the next. Parlux 3200 Compact Ceramic & Ionic Edition dryer comes in black, silver, red, choc. cherry, metallic charcoal, metallic purple, and metallic pink. Just gorgeous and beautifully effective.

Parlux Professional dryers are available from Dateline City. Ciao!

Cleaning Makeup Brushes.

As wonderfully emailed…

After reading Beauty Marked! Online Beauty Magazine and your blog daily, I was inspired to race out and purchase a lovely set of make-up brushes, -and what a difference this has made! Thank you. Now that I have this “you beaut” set of brushes and one kabuki, how do I care for them?

I am so pleased you enjoy Beauty Marked! and welcome back. Now, let’s see about these beautiful brushes. Aim to wash your frequently used brushes at least once a week, if you’re the only one using them. You may have to wash them more regularly if they have been used for wet types of makeup, such as cream or liquid foundation, concealers, block mascaras and wet eyeliners.

Makeup brushes can successfully be washed with baby shampoo, non creamy, non glycerine or glycolic free gel facial cleansers, or very mild sulphate free shampoos. What you do is, while holding the brush by the handle so that the bristles are pointing downward, gently run luke warm water over the hairs only, taking care not to get the handle wet or allow water to run up into the ferrule (the ferrule is the metal part of the brush designed to hold the glued hairs of the brush together and also joins the hairs to the brush’s handle).

Once the hairs are wet, swipe the wet hairs through a pea size blob of cleanser which is easily placed in the palm of your other hand. Then gently rub the cleanser through the brush’s bristles. You might find your palm a handy place to swish the soapy bristles back and forth to loosen the make-up for optimal cleaning. After a minute or two of gentle massaging in of cleanser, rinse the brush hair under running luke warm water while continuing to hold the hairs downward and massage the bristles until the water runs clear. Shake the brush and reshape the brush’s bristles and set the clean brush aside, just over the edge of counter or table to dry.

The bristled end of the brush needs to be placed over the edge so that the bristles are open to air on all sides for proper drying. I like to fold a clean face washer into a square and place it on the edge of the area I am drying the brushes on. I find that the flannel will elevate the brush from its drying surface as well as keep them from rolling of the counter! Leave the brushes to dry overnight. Once dry, I gently fluff the hairs and return them to there usual home for safe keeping in readiness for their next call to duty.

Now to Kabuki brushes. How do you wash those confounded little cuties do you ask? Well, here’s a little Beauty Marked! tip: Wash them in the same method as you would do the longer handled babies, but the only difference is in the drying. Sticky tape the handle to the very edge of the counter or table to allow the hairs to air on all sides. Fluff when dry. We have also heard of folks wrapping an elastic band a few times around the stubby little handle and then tying one end of string or ribbon to the elastic band and the other to a doorknob to dry overnight. But honestly, do whatever works best for you, as long as the bristles are allowed to dry free from touching any surface and that water doesn’t run into the base. Too easy!

Lastly, when cleaning synthetic brushes that have been used for gel or wet & dry eyeliners or any similarly tenacious eye makeup, Beauty Marked! recommends quickly dipping the bristles into a small amount of eye makeup remover. Rub in thoroughly, rinse and then wash them as you would wash your other cherished brushes.

The above suggestions should help you keep your brushes in good nick. Well cared for brushes should last a very long time and serve you well. Be sure to let us know at Beauty Marked! if we can help you with any of your other beauty questions. BM! is always all to glad to help.

D. I. Y. Brazilians.

bmlavender.jpg
I received a great emailed question via our online beauty magazine Beauty Marked! and instantly knew a fair few of you would love to know the very same thing. This valued Beauty Marked! reader’s email was in response to the BM! Q&A page answer regarding Horticulture of The Nether Regions, no doubt.

The email reads as follows:

I was reading your article about Brazilians and I was wondering wether its ok to do it yourself the first time? And if so what products are there that are good? And are there any tips or hints I need? Also I love the site xxx

Firstly and most importantly, thank you for your email and kind words about the Site. You’ve made my day! Secondly, it is, absolutely, fine to D.I.Y. Brazilians. But let’s face it, it may just require you to channel your inner Yogi in order to do it thoroughly, but it’s doable nonetheless. As a first timer to Brazilians, I suspect it may be a good idea to have it done professionally first, and then you can capably take over the reigns next time. The reason for letting a professional have a go initially is that they will be infinitely quicker at the job and possibly a little less painful. Let’s face it, no matter which side you part your hair on, Brazilians can be a tad ouchy until you get used to it. So the quicker it’s done, the better. Then you can get on with deciding if Brazilians are for you and if you’re feeling up to the task after seeing and experiencing what’s involved.

So what do you do once the baton is passed to you? What are the D.I.Y.-er’s essentials you ask? I wouldn’t even dream of attempting a Brazilian without the following:

An electric wax pot
A quality hard/hot wax
A mirror that can stand on its own
A waxing spatula
A quality pair of slant tweezers
A superb post wax oil (which can double as a pre wax oil too)
Towels

(optional)
A quality strip wax and strips and an extra wax pot or pot insert for the strip wax

All of the above can be purchased from a reputable beauty supply store, which you can suss out from your local yellow pages. Go for the products that are best suited to your specific skin type and the best you can afford. Just to get you started, here are a few brands which should do the job nicely, but there are several decent lines and waxes available, so if you don’t see my recs., there’s sure to be other good ones about, so please don’t sweat it too much:

For…

Wax pots- Caron, Lycon
Hard/Hot Wax- Arbre, Mancine, Lycon (which are made especially for sensitive areas)
Slant Tweezers- Tweezerman, Rubis
Post wax oil - Caron, Lycon
Strip Wax and Strips- Caron Venetian Spun Lace Depilatory Roll, Mancine XXX Wax (these are optional)

Without boring you with an entire waxing tutorial, I’ll just leave you with a little more by way of explanation regarding a few things to consider, should you wish, when waxing. Hot wax is generally the wax of choice when attending to sensitive areas, but strip wax can be used successfully on the Mons Pubis (the triangular area also affectionately known as the map of Tassie) which is the pubic area that remains visible when standing with your legs closed. If that’s sounding like a little too much palaver than only go the hot wax, which is more than fine. The benefits of strip wax in this area only, is that it can wax a greater area quicker and some reckon it also gets finer hairs too. If you have used the strip wax for the Mons Pubis area, then go over the entire pubic area with a little Post Waxing Oil. Not only will it remove any trace of residue wax, but will disinfect and soothe the area waxed and prepare the unwaxed area for the hot wax. The quality post waxing oil doubles as a necessary pre wax oil which you will need to apply before hot waxing as this protects the skin greatly. Well, the tweezers, you will need to remove the few rogue hairs that inevitably get missed when waxing. Generally tweezing after waxing isn’t anywhere near as painful as tweezing prior, because many hairs are loosened in the initial waxing process and tend not to resist removal too much when plucked at this time.

After waxing, it’s often not recommended to have a hot shower for the day or swim in chlorinated pools or spas. I’d also recommend that you not wear tight under garments or tight trousers for the day of the wax either, as they can be chaffing. And lastly, consider any waxing well before the week your period is due. In the premenstrual period our pain threshold is lowered, which makes us slightly more sensitive. So, if it can be helped, try and avoid waxing during this time like the plague. *shakes head and sighs* Trust me, it’s not worth it.

So there you have it. It is absolutely okay to D.I.Y. wax, just give yourself a bit of time, limber up beforehand, and give it a go. Too easy!
