A Funny Thing Happened On The Way…
To the Forum. Okay. Okay. Well, maybe not to the Forum, exactly. Yesterday, I received another consignment of beauty goodies to test for you and amongst the various new beauty bits was this unassuming darling of a fragrance that did, indeed, catch me by surprise. Somewhere while opening up and having a quick peek at the beauty products, I must have spritzed on a bit of this intriguing fragrance, put it away and moved on to other things. As the day went on, I kept getting the most glorious little whiffs of summer. I’m not talking that tragically over done “summer” smell of seriously annoying, over populated, hideously sandy beaches and clawing coconut tanning oil, but of lovely lofty breezes filled with fruity florals, soft clouds, and beautiful blue skies. You know the ones. I kept saying to myself and even once out loud, I’m sure, “what is that gorgeous smell?” Well, it was only after a better part of the day had past, that I realized it was the new fragrance I received earlier in the day. Of course! I should of recognized the delightful top notes of sunny orange blossom, Sicilian bergamot, and Japanese pear martinis, or the mid notes of hydroponic gardenia, white peony petals, and blue hyacinth. Even the delectable dry down of tonka bean, heliotrope, and white musk illuded me. But the penny did eventually drop and it did so in the most perfect way: Calvin Klein Eternity summer.
Eternity summer, by Calvin Klein is a limited edition offering in its signature flacon that has had its outer packaging and fragrance newly interpreted for summer with a vision and scent of the perfect summer sky- a light and airy blue expanse touched by white clouds. Eternity summer is, indeed, the essence of the perfect summer day. LE Eternity summer 2007 is presently on counter.
Just Imagine…
Ideally, I’d love to razzle dazzle you with my Photoshopping skills, but as you can see, my ability is sorely lacking. Luckily, there are fabulous essential oil concoctions, lotions, and potions that I can always reach for when I need a boost of confidence and sense of well-being , as I’m not up to the point where I can gather kudos for my groundbreaking image altering talents, just yet. Imagine the My bod® Body Oil pictured gracefully cascading from the svelte neck of the amber bottle into a warm, luxurious bath filling the room with the perfume of nurturing and healing Sandalwood, Rosewood, and Patchouli essential oils. Divine!
(I knew there had to be a reason why I couldn’t get the up right version of that photo to work.)
My silliness aside, I think I might have stumbled onto another of Mother Nature’s finest, bottled to help promote a sense of confidence, well-being and all the while sensational for dry and cracked skin. My bod® Body Oil Sandalwood, Rosewood and Patchouli Blend is outstanding at healing dehydrated skin and soothing the soul, when applied after a shower onto damp skin, sprinkled into a running bath, or used neat as a massage oil. The ingredients of the Australian-made My bod® Body Oil are almond oil, safflower oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, sandalwood, rosewood, and patchouli essential oils, and vitamin E. My bod® Body Oil Sandalwood, Rosewood and Patchouli Blend is certainly one of those stellar bottles of goodness worth getting a hold of. Visit bod® for your local supplier and learn of all the other beautiful bits of bod® bounty.
A Rose By Any Other Name…
It really is an enormous undertaking, which spans countless faculties, when one decides to hang with the “firebrands” of fragrance. It’s very serious stuff, indeed. Although I can’t be sure, but I am reasonably certain, small land wars have been fought over the dry down of a scent or two. One can easily feel out of their depth when attempting to opine about the exceedingly complex nature of fragrance. But really, it’s all about how a scent smells to you and how fabulous it makes you feel, isn’t it?
From my vantage point, Agent Provocateur Eau Emotionnelle EDT, is so very feminine and equally flirtatious, that not much further remarking need be made. Eau Emotionnelle is often called the “charming sister” to Agent Provocateur’s inimitable and unabashed signature scent: Agent Provocateur. Eau Emotionnelle has top notes of wild rosemary and pink pepper, middle notes of jasmine, osmanthus, magnolia, and white tea, and base notes of woods and musk. Having personally never had the pleasure of consciously smelling a magnolia, pink pepper, or the evergreen shrub osmanthus, which is apparently common in southern US, Middle East, China, and Japan, I couldn’t begin to tell you if this smells true. But I am very aware of a extraordinarily complex, polygamic marriage of scents that exist with playful allure in this beguiling bottle. Agent Provocateur’s Eau Emotionnelle EDT is the one you reach for when you feel like inciting others to commit emotive acts based far from reason.
Lest We Forget.
On this ANZAC Day, I shall spare a thought for the brave men and women of the armed forces who have served, risking all, for our country. Thank you.
Lest we forget the humble shrubby evergreen herb rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) as well. Rosemary is the symbol of remembrance commemorating ANZAC Day. Most of us are familiar with rosemary’s culinary uses, and would have certainly seen sprigs of this herb worn on ANZAC Day, but are not as well acquainted with its aromatherapy uses in beauty. Rosemary can be used successfully in skincare as a highly effective treatment for dandruff, eczema, to encourage hair growth, to improve follicular stimulation, enhance blood circulation, and aid in the treatment of cellulite, just to name a few. Rosemary essential oil has many valuable and varied uses. In fact, its use in skincare, is just the beginning.
Rosemary is the key ingredient in “Hungary Water”, the prized Eau de Cologne made in 1370. Hungary Water was named after Queen Elizabeth of Hungary, who claimed to have retained her beautiful appearance well into old age as a direct result of liberal use of this very early EDT. Hungary Water was not only prized as a fragrance, but as a great medicinal tonic used topically.
Here’s Beauty Marked!’s version of Hungary Water. Mix all the ingredients together, decant into a sterilized glass bottle, and tightly cap. leave your Hungary Water to sit for 2 weeks or more to mature before use. Store away from direct light. Enjoy!
Hungary Water
30 drops of rosemary essential oil
12 drops of cold pressed lemon essential oil
5 drops of rose otto essential oil
5 drops of Neroli (if available) or cold pressed orange essential oil

**pregnant women, individuals with high-blood pressure, and suffers of epilepsy should avoid use of rosemary essential oil. Essential oils should not be taken internally**
Another Global Beauty Bite.
I remain intrigued by the results of Clinique’s Global Survey that provides a snapshot into the truths about beauty that over 10, 400 women in over 13 countries, whose mother tongues span over 15 languages, have. Today, I was particularly interested in the global makeup and fragrance preferences stated in summary of the vast many women that contributed to the survey and thought I would share them with you. According to the survey:
Makeup essentials vary.
-The makeup products that are viewed as essential vary from country to country.
-Lipstick is most essential in the US, China, India, Mexico, Spain, and South Africa.
It was also noted that in the Asian countries of China, India, and Japan, one-third of respondents said there is no item of makeup they wouldn’t leave home without.
Foundation is the most essential in Japan and Korea.
-Almost all women in Japan wear foundation and a majority wear it daily.
-Foundation is also popular in Korea, the US, and the UK.
-Foundation is least popular in India. Only one-third wear it and then only on special occasions.
Beautiful skin looks natural.
-The right colour match is by far the most important quality in a foundation.
-In Italy, Korea, and Spain, the correct level of coverage is most important
Women smell sweeter in some countries.
-Daily fragrance is popular in Australia, Mexico, Russia, Spain, South Africa, and the UK
-Fragrance was not at all popular in Asian countries of China, India, Japan, and Korea. Women in the US, Germany, and Italy are almost evenly split on the use of fragrance daily.
There you have it…another global beauty bite. Are your preferences similiar to the above? I’d love to know.

If you tell anyone, I’ll have to…
Okay, well, maybe not kill you. I cannot believe how much I love this fragrance. It’s almost embarrassing. When I heard that the best selling author, dedicated mother and philanthropist, Danielle Steel, was coming out with a fragrance, I was like, yeah, whatever… One less fragrance for me to lemm over. Boy, was I wrong. I find myself actually getting excited to reach for this gorgeous bottle of Danielle to spritz this fabulous scent on. I kid you not. I have completely gone for the ride with this one. Danielle is, indeed, the lush fresh floriental that opens with a fresh burst of watery green notes, that moves into an ultra-feminine floral heart and a rich base that slowly reveals darker facets. Maybe it’s the darker facets that grab me, dunno? I most certainly adore the perfume’s bottle too. Apparently, the bottle is inspired by Danielle Steel’s love of fine crystal. I’d have to agree with Danielle Steel that the bold silhouette, perfect clarity, and luxurious heavy weight glass of this design is both graceful and feminine while exuding a quite strength. It, absolutely, engenders that in me too. Danielle by Danielle Steel is on counter from tomorrow.
